Q. What is Platelet rich plasma?
Platelet-rich plasma, also known as autologous conditioned plasma, is a concentrate of platelet-rich plasma protein derived from whole blood. Our blood is composed of 2 main contents – the cells and plasma. While cells are mainly white blood cells, red blood cells and platelets, plasma is the is the yellow coloured fluid in which these cells are suspended.
Of the cellular component, the platelets have been found to have healing and regenerative potential. PRP or platelet rich plasma had found its first application in sports injuries.

How to obtain a PRP?

The centrifuge process is the most important step of procuring the PRP. It involves a 2 spin procedure, accurate extraction of plasma after 1st spin, gentle transfer of PRP in the syringe without platelet damage. This roughly takes half an hour.
How is the procedure done?
Ans. The client’s skin is first analyzed by Dr. Vrushali and the problem areas are highlighted. Because it’s an invasive procedure, the timing of the procedure is scheduled such that it doesn’t coincide with a social event.
An anaesthetic cream is applied on the patients face for half hour. After cleaning and degreasing the skin, the PRP is delivered to the deeper layers of the skin as planned. It can be delivered by microneedling with dermaroller or dermapen or direct injections or a combination of the above.

Ans. There is some swelling and redness after that procedure that lasts 24 to 48 hours.
