WHAT IS KELOID?

Normally when there is an injury to the skin, it heals with scar formation. The scar is flat, skin coloured and limited to the site of injury. In some people, the scar formation is quite aggressive causing a scar which is raised from the surface of the skin, altered colour and extends beyond the site of injury often in a claw shaped fashion. This is known as keloidal scarring or keloid and often runs in families.

WHICH ARE THE COMMONLY AFFECTED AREAS?

Keloids commonly happen in areas of increased skin tension like shoulders, mid chest, upper back, knees, elbows of any suture lines. Keloids in active stage are often itchy. Keloid Treatment in Mumbai can occur as a response to any trauma, infection, acne, boils, surgical scar, laser etc.

HOW ONE CAN GET RID OF THIS CONDITION?

Two nonsurgical treatments that are safe and effective in keloid are cryotherapy and Intra leisional injection of triamcinolone acetonide and 5 fluouracil.

WILL IT BE CURED IN ONE SESSION?

These treatments are repeated every 3 to 4 weeks and may take 4 to 10 sessions for resolution.

HOW ARE EARLOBE KELOIDS MANAGED ?

For keloids involving the ear, generally a surgical excision is performed along with intra leisional injection.

WHAT ARE THE CHANCES OF RECURRENCE OF KELOIDS ?
